HEADLIGHT RESTORATION
A fresh start for faded headlights.
Yellowing and haze on the outside of a plastic lens may be restorable. It starts with understanding what’s actually damaged.
Why headlights turn cloudy
Many modern headlight lenses are made from polycarbonate plastic with an exterior protective coating. Over time, UV exposure, weather, and abrasion can wear that protection down. The surface may become yellow, hazy, or rough.
That outer layer is different from moisture inside the assembly, a failing bulb, or a cracked housing. Restoration targets the lens surface; it does not repair every cause of poor lighting.
What professional restoration involves
A typical exterior restoration includes an assessment, protection of nearby paint and trim, controlled removal of degraded material, refinement of the lens surface, and renewed UV protection. The exact process depends on the condition of the lens and the protection system used.
We confirm the recommended work, protection, and care instructions before starting. Photos help with an initial quote; final suitability is assessed in person.
Protection matters as much as the first photo
A freshly refined lens needs an appropriate protective finish. Ask what product is being used, what cure conditions it requires, and how to care for it. No finish makes a headlight immune to future weathering.
What results are realistic?
Suitable headlights can look noticeably clearer, with less visible yellowing and surface haze. Deep damage, internal deterioration, or permanent crazing can remain visible. Restoration does not make every lens look factory new and does not diagnose or correct beam alignment.
Restore or replace?
| What you see | Best next step |
|---|---|
| Exterior yellowing or haze on intact plastic | Ask for a restoration assessment. |
| Cloudiness that appears inside the lens | Have the assembly inspected for internal damage or moisture. |
| Cracks, broken seals, deep crazing, or missing pieces | Ask a qualified repairer about assembly repair or replacement. |
| A light that flickers, does not turn on, or points incorrectly | Arrange electrical or lighting-system diagnosis. |
| Glass lenses or heavily damaged aftermarket lenses | Confirm material and suitability before any work. |
What to expect at your appointment
We confirm location, a suitable work area, expected time, total price, and any weather constraints. The headlights are checked before work begins. Afterwards, we walk through the results and explain when the finish can be driven, washed, or exposed to moisture.
